Update on Jan

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Featured October 2005 http://www.shareacard.org/jan.html

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope this finds you doing well, I wanted to update you on what is going on with me in my lil corner of the world.  Yesterday, Friday, I got some news, I met with the eye specialist and he told my husband and I he feels there might be a tumor in my right eye and that is why I am having so much trouble with my eye, he feels it is blocking my tear ducts, he did a biopsy (OUCH) He has put me on an antibodic 2 pills twice a day for the next three weeks. It is infected and so swollen and red.  So, please keep me in your prayers. I should hear back re: the biopsy w/in two weeks.
Tell your members I keep them all in my prayers.  God Bless you and your wonderful outreach ministry.  Love, Jan
Some Changes to Submitting a Feature
Thursday, August 17th, 2006
After consulting the moderators, it’s been decided that we will be removing some parts of the requirements for ShareaCard.
Change #1- I will not be requiring a Drs. phone number/name to request being featured. After having a loved one as a feature myself, it made me realize how hard it is to ask this personal information of someone who is ill. In the event that financial assistance be given to a submitted feature, then the Review Board would request further information and screening would be done.
Change #2- There will be no “1 feature request per 6 month limit” anymore. Each request will be evaluated on case by case basis.
I’m also looking into ways to promote ShareaCard and advertise what a great group we are! Though small in numbers, we are large in heart and the difference we make in the lives of those who are ill! Some things I am working on in my area are: placing business cards in local businesses, submitting to a community volunteer page in our local paper, having some pens printed up with ShareaCard info on them and a soon to be announced ShareaCard Online Store! If you have any input on ways you think we can get our name out there and GROW, please feel free to email me at anytime. I’m always open to suggestions :)
Forms Were Not Working!
Thursday, August 17th, 2006
I became  aware earlier in the week that the forms on ShareaCard were not working properly. After consulting our webhost, it was suggested that perhaps a server was blocking some forwarding from going thru :( After some editing, that appears to be the case. Unfortunately, that prevented ANY forms from going thru, possibly as long as 3 weeks back. So, if you submitted a feature, an update, a change in status or even became a new subscriber to ShareaCard, that information was never received. If you would please go re-submit the information, everything is working fine now. Thanks for your patience.
August Update on Cherryl
Monday, August 14th, 2006
This was posted on the Forums:
Cherryl had Chemotherapy round 3 on August 9th. Her friend (of 20 plus years) Ellen has been spending the day with her at each session. Although Cherryl is not much company as she tends to sleep a lot. There are LARGE recliners that are just too soothing, the interior and exterior are relaxing also.
The North Star Lodge is set like a great old mountain/forest/steam lodge. If you know Whistlin’ Jack Lodge here in Yakima County, WA then you get the idea. Even the medical carts with drawers are of oak that looks like much of the kind of furnishings our grandparents used to have. As you enter or leave there are plenty of benches to rest on with plantings all around, pathways to walk on trees to sit among and everywhere there are little streams burbling over the rocks. We even saw this week a pair of quail scurrying in and out of the low bushes and exotic grasses planted there.
All in all the folks at the cancer center have done and continue to make the whole experience as stress free as possible in spite of the seriousness of the illness they treat there.
The neurosurgeon who did brain surgery for the tumor in September 2004 ordered an MRI on the Monday before chemo. The cancer center had a copy of the report by the day of chemo (Wednesday). The oncologist did not really comment on it, although she did give us a copy.
The technical result is a small spot (5 millimeters ~ ¼ inch ~ at about the location of the previous tumor. It could be according to the report a “recurrent tumor, metastatic disease, infection and radiation necrosis should also be considered”. We also wonder if it could be a new Multiple Sclerosis flare. We see the surgeon on Thursday this week and will be most interested in his impression.
We continue to thank God for the care of the medical professionals and the love of our family & friends.
With deep gratitude we extend to you the blessings we have in Jesus our Savior.
Cherryl and walt
Isn’t it wonderful that they have such a pleasant and relaxing place for such an unpleasant treatment?
Update on Jennifer
Friday, August 11th, 2006
Jennifer–Featured March 2006 http://www.shareacard.org/jennifer.html
Mom posted this on the forums:
Message #1–”I want to take a minute and say thankyou to everyone has taken the time to make my daughters life a little brighter.My daughter has been blind since birth and has serious life threatening , painful health issues.When most 21yr olds are going off to school or starting a new career or getting married,Jennifers life is confined to a body that has betrayed her and a very small world consisting of her home & her room.Getting cards & letters & small gifts in the mail gives her somthing to hope for.She keeps a shoe box beside her bed and reads and re-reads everything.I can’t emphasize to you to magnatude of or impact emotionally your kindness and generosity has had on her.There just does not seem to be enough words.All I can say from the bottom of my heart to EVERYONE is THANKYOU SO VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!GOD BLESS,  Jennifers’s mom”
Message #2–  “Just wanted to update everyone & let you know that Jennifer has been having a hard time lately.Her osteoperosis & scholiosis ( in her back ) have been causing her alot of pain.Sadly she did not get to do anything much this summer.She mostly stayed home & listened to her CD’s.She was VERY VERY upset with us because she had to miss her much love Beach Boys in Concert.She was suppose to go see them in Atlanta on July 27th, but she was in way to much pain & it was just TOOOOOOO HOTTTTTTTTT, we couldn’t risk it.She cried for about two weeks.I think this one will take a while to get over.Her cough has gotten worse due to the steroids and reflux.Now , the doctor suspects that she is slipping into a little depression because she cries frequently & easily.It is hard being just 21yrs old and so sick.Thankyou everyone for all your cards, keep them coming, they are a high point for her & she really looks forward to hearing from you.God Bless.
Jennifer’s mom”
I hope Jennifer’s pain subsides so she can enjoy what remains of summer. I can only imagine how disappointed she was to miss that concert :(
