Update on Janet

Friday, November 17th, 2006

Recent update posted by Janet’s aunt, Sandy……

Janet’s had chemo therapy since mid August.  She’s been extremely sick with it, and unable to attend any school.  She won’t be the full year.  Twice she’s been put in a coma state in order to “deal” with the extreme chemo.

She’s had surgery 3 wks ago for limb salvaging surgery.  They removed 12 inches of her bone, 6 inches above and below her knee.  They inserted metal rodes in her leg.  The incision goes from the outside of her ankle like an S up her leg into and above the inside of the knee.

She’s also had skin grafts.  The skin in the affected area had to be removed and skin grafts were taken from her thigh…same leg.  So, her entire leg is cut up, bandaged and in a large heavy cast.  She’s very limited, as the cast is so heavy.  She is now home and trying to learn to get around in a wheel chair and on crutches.  Her brother carries her up and town the steps.  She’s still in pain, but hoping it will improve with each day.

She’s trying to heal from the surgery, and so the doctors have decided to give her about a month without any chemo to help in the post op process.  This is good in that she’s feeling better.  Though I worry about the cancer still there multiplying and growing with the break in the chemo treatments.

They were striving for a 90% kill rate when they examined 250 slides (90% cancer cells killed).  We’re all dissappointed because they didn’t get the desired 90% kill rate, something around 80-85%, meaning 15-20% of the cells still have active cancer.  She will be continuing Chemo therapy and it will go for a longer period of time, though as yet how long is up in the air.

Please continue to keep Janet in your heart and prayers, and know she and her mother (and me:)  are extremely appreciative of the cards, and support.

HUGS of Thanks
Aunt Sandy

Joanna– Sad News

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

Joanna lost her battle with liver cancer on Tuesday evening :( The family called to thank ShareaCard for all the lovely cards Joanna received in the short time she was featured on ShareaCard! They were VERY VERY appreciative. Anita, Joanna’s daughter, has been taking this very hard and has found all the cards Joanna received to be very healing for her.  If you wish to send a sympathy card, I KNOW  that would be greatly appreciated by the family.
