Announcing our 2008 Holiday Card Project!

November 6th, 2008

It’s that time of year again! I’m happy to announce the 2008 Holiday Card Project!
We have 32 Features this year!!!!

The Purpose: The mission of the Holiday Card Project is to gather Christmas greeting cards and distribute them to seriously ill people who have been featured on ShareaCard and are in active status (we have had an update within the last 6 months). It is well known that the holiday season is extremely depressing to the shut-in and the very ill. They watch all around them as everyone shops and bakes and enjoy themselves, all the while many cannot even leave their homes and are ill from all their medical treatments. YOU can help make a difference in their holiday season! Just imagine the delight when a Feature receives a large box filled with greeting cards from all the United States and Canada, wishing them well and sending along caring thoughts. EVERY card received will make an impact this holiday!
What Can I Do?: Participate! Visit our Features Accepting Cards Page All the Features listed on the right hand side of the page are participating. Detailed mailing instructions are listed on this page. Any number of cards accepted! Please mail your cards by December 1st!

Can’t Participate? Help Promote! We have a Holiday Card Project Flyer available for download. Hang it up on any community bulletin board (ie: laundromats, grocery stores, restaurants etc) to help advertise our project.

Our Goal: Last year, we collected over 2150 cards! Our goal this year is to hit an all time high of 3000 cards!

Flashbacks From 2007: Visit our 2007 Holiday Card Project Results Page to hear all the exciting details from last year.

Thank you so much! This is one of those projects that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside :) Still have doubts? Read the “goose bump good” details from last year HERE! Or read how our Feature’s reacted! If you have any questions, email one of us

Preparing for the Holiday Season

August 27th, 2008

We’re starting to think “Holiday Card Project”!!! For all the newcomers, this is our biggest project of the year! We will be collecting cards for our Features to lift their spirits during the upcoming Holiday Season. We are only in preparation stages. This project will not be officially announced until mid to late October and we will collect cards thru early December.

With school getting underway once again, that means the Scout troops will start forming. Last year, I sent letters all over the state of Pa. requesting troops participate. Input from those troops was that they would need more time to work this into their activity planning schedules. Most of us aren’t thinking “holiday mode” any sooner than we have to!! lol However, in hopes of receiving more group participation, we’re mailing our information now asking for their help. If you are a Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, Senior Center advisor, teacher, etc….or know of anyone who is, I would love to send them a brochure and information letter.

We also are looking for anyone who might have connections to a UPS Store or box company. Last year, we had soooo many cards, we had to purchase boxes to ship the cards and goodies to our Features! Wahooooo! We’re hoping we need tons more this year :) I did send letters to 13 of my local UPS Stores asking for box donations but we haven’t had any return phone calls. Perhaps someone here has a connection?
Look for more details on the Holiday Card Project coming soon!
Hugs,

ShareaCard In the News

July 28th, 2008

Last week, I got an unexpected phone call from a sweet young lady who was saw the ShareaCard flyer at Panera Bread in Hershey. She was a writer for a local paper (Harrisburg Patriot News) and was interested in doing an article on ShareaCard!!! Today, the article appeared in the paper. As I sat in the store parking lot reading the paper in the dark, I was moved to tears, thinking of approaching the 4th anniversary of losing Suzanne and how wonderful that this woman was inspired to help spread Suz’s “work of heart”.
Those flyers are being read and they do help spread the word! The author of the article said this could be picked up nationwide by as many as 20 papers! Wahhhhooooooo! Perhaps your town paper would do an article on YOU and how you contribute to ShareaCard???
If you’d like to read the article, you can find it on our “Shareacard in the News” area of the website.

Thanks for our Features

Kathy: “Hi to all, My biggest message I want everyone to know is how grateful I’am for everyone that ever sent me a card, it was some thing I so looked forward to and lived to read each card one at a time and at times it would take me a week or two to get them all red, because I held on to
every word in every card and every name and state they came from and was so amazed that all the people took there time to send little old me
a card of hope and prayers. A very awsome experience for me. I didn’t have family to be there and support me, the strangers that never met me
became my family and pulled me through the cancer . Wow, Share Card peoples prayers saved my life! The Share Card program saves life’s they did mine!At any rate thank you all for giving me life again. Kathy E.”

Wow, I’ve got goosebumps…keep up the good work everyone!

ShareaCard Flyers

July 8th, 2008

We want to thank everyone for your wonderful support and helping us spread the word about ShareaCard.

It’s so hard to find methods to let everyone know about our charity. Being a non-profit organization we just can’t afford advertising like a large business.

We have a flyer on our website but understand that some people do not have a printer or cannot afford the ink it takes to print out the flyers. So we are offering 10 of our flyers to those who would be willing to put them up around their town. Great places to place the flyer are: doctors offices, post offices, grocery store bulletin boards, hospitals, libraries, the list goes on and on. Basically any where you see that has a bulletin board would be great!

If you would be interested in placing 10 of our flyers around your town, please email Kathy

Hugs,

Kath, Cindy, Gigi, Connie and Tricia

What $1 Means to Others!

July 3rd, 2008

With all the recent updates from our Features and hearing about all the joy our cards have been bringing them, it got me thinking. Like many of us nowadays, I have time constraints, so I often pick up my cards at the Dollar Tree 2/$1. Add to that the cost of postage and it comes to less than $1. You don’t get much for $1 these days given the state of our economy.
We’re all watching our pennies, trying to get the most out of our money.
But for our Features, $1 is priceless!
$1 means eagering awaiting the mail to arrive in hopes there will be a card for them!
$1 means opening a card and finding out that a stranger cared enough about them to send them a card!
$1 means a smile to someone who hasn’t smiled very much lately
$1 means forgetting all the pain they are going thru or all the treatments they are undergoing
$1 means someone is praying for them and thinking of them.
For $1, it means the world….it means someone cared!

Did you spend your $1 wisely this month??
Hugs,
Kath
